Olympic Canoe/Kayak Slalom OverviewSlalom canoeing, also known as whitewater canoeing, has been a part of the Olympics since the Munich 1972 Games and the disappeared from the Olympic programme until 1992 in Barcelona. It has been a part of the Games since then. Slalom canoe racers compete in four events: three for women and four for men. The events take place in a whitewater course that athletes must negotiate with time penalties for missed slalom gates.
